FEC Eclipse Team 1999
During Eclipse week we hosted an evangelistic team co-ordinated for us by GBM. After a days travelling a group of Christians whom the LORD had drawn together from all over England were warmly welcomed by Falmouth Evangelical Church. T he host church & 'eclipse' team held united vision;seeking to bring the gospel message to those who would listen. Much earnest prayer had preceeded & continued throughout our time together as we sought the LORD for contacts, conversations, wisdom & strength.
Daily devotionals & prayer times were led by Geoff Gobbett (Highbury,London) The team (21 of us) were challenged by his clear exposition on 'Discipleship'-everyday there was a definitive aspect which as Christians we must apply to our hearts, to continually 'die to self' as we live our Christian life. No-one could have anticipated the great opportunities & abundant answers to prayer that the LORD was pleased to grant us in the days ahead. Here for a week of evangelism in the busy Cornish sea-side town, & with the'eclipse' occurring midweek, what a 'diamond' opportunity to witness to those many lost souls endeavouring to witness the once-in-a-lifetime solar phenomenan. The residents of Falmouth were of equal concern as we divided our time between various 'eclipse' evangelism and door-to-door work in the vicinity of the church. The open-air services, basic street & beach tracting offered numerous opportunities for conversations.During , the day was transformed into an 'Art Gallery', an ideal drop-in venue where free literature & a welcome willing ear was readily available. The LORD opened the way for 3! docked Russian ships to be visited & Bibles & literature left with the crews. Wherever we were the LORD blessed us with contacts, enabling us to speak boldly of sin-forgiveness-new life in Jesus Christ. Despite the evangelistic zeal & urgent desire to share the gospel sometimes we were met with responses of ignorance - indifference - 'religious' confusion & the thief of not only time but eternity itself - procrastination! However there was much to encourage us & to continue to pray for as we built up a network of contacts & shared our encounters with one another at team debriefings. Amongst Christians should be an urgent desire to share the gospel & a deep compassion for those who are striding headlong into a lost eternity. Our complacency must be banished & replaced with earnest prayer, a commitment to seeking the LORD to readdress this godless land. The Holy Spirit to instill fear of the Holy and Living God, without His help we can do nothing. As a team we can testify that with sincere prayer& our united vision the LORD was in our midst. Our Sovereign LORD's Word was going forth accomplishing what He desires & the purpose for which He sent it. We are claiming His promise that it will not return void.
