April 1st marked the
sixteenth anniversary of
our move to
Shortly after coming here I circulated members of the church with possible projects that we might hope to see accomplished. These included establishing the church here by obtaining suitable premises, planting a church in Truro and evangelistic work in the docks.
We now have premises in the town
centre which are modern
(therefore few repair bills for fabric) and convenient for parking etc.
The
building was acquired at auction in a providential fashion at a time
when it
would normally have been beyond our means.Whilst small it serves
our purposes
well.
John Rosser’s arrival a few years ago saw the church plant for Truro taken forward at a much earlier stage than we would have anticipated doing it.
One opportunity that could not be foreseen when we arrived here is the taking of class assemblies (60 to 70 children in each year group) at the local school Liz teaches at, some 420 children each week. Some of these include power point style presentations and have included material based on Day One's excellent publication 'Hallmarks of Design'
Special opportunities have sometimes presented themselves. During the Eclipse week we had a team of some 25 people evangelising amongst residents and tourists and distributed a huge quantity of literature including John Blanchard's books as well as tracts. We've also been able to take bibles onto Russian ships following the end of the Cold War. click here for details of the Eclipse week
We also seem to serve as a staging post. Some years ago a rather shy young man came to the Art College and was advised to join us by his home fellowship. He preached his first sermon whilst with us, remained after his degree and having taken the Cornhill training course and having had two assistant pastorates is now pastor of a church in Kent. Others who we've enjoyed fellowship with are scattered across the country.
